1. What We Collect
We keep data collection to the absolute minimum.
- Study data (on your device only): the study set you selected, your position in that set, the downloaded character list, and your widget appearance settings are stored locally on your device. This data is never transmitted to us and we cannot see it.
- Character set downloads: when you download or refresh a study set, the app requests a data file from our server at
skidev.xyz. Like any web request, our server receives your IP address, the time of the request, and basic device/user-agent information. We use this only to deliver the file and to keep the service running. We do not build user profiles from it. - Advertising data: the app displays ads through Google AdMob, which may collect device identifiers and usage data. See section 4.
2. What We Do NOT Collect
- We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any account credentials
- We do not require or offer an account — there is nothing to sign up for
- We do not track which characters you study, or how often you study them
- We do not sell your data to anyone, ever
- We do not track your location
- We do not access your contacts, photos, camera, or microphone
3. Character Set Downloads
Study sets (hiragana, katakana, and JLPT kanji levels N5–N1) are downloaded on demand from our server so that content can be corrected and expanded without shipping a new app version.
- Downloads happen only when you tap a study set or press refresh
- Once downloaded, a set is cached on your device and works with no network connection
- The request contains no personal identifier — only the name of the set you asked for
4. Advertising
Kanji Widget is free and supported by advertising. We use Google AdMob (a service provided by Google LLC) to display advertisements within the app. Ads appear only inside the app — never in the home-screen widget.
AdMob may collect and process certain information, including:
- Advertising identifiers (such as Google Advertising ID or IDFA)
- Device information (model, operating system, language)
- IP address
- Ad interaction and usage data
This information may be used to provide personalized ads, measure ad performance, and prevent fraud.
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you may be asked to provide consent before personalized ads are shown, in accordance with applicable data protection laws such as GDPR. You may withdraw or change your consent at any time within the app (where available).
You can also manage or disable personalized advertising through your device settings:
- iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → disable "Allow Apps to Request to Track"
- Android: Settings → Google → Ads → Reset or delete Advertising ID

5. Data Storage & Security
- All study data is stored in your device's standard app storage, protected by the operating system
- On iOS, this storage is shared with the widget extension through a private App Group so the widget can display your characters
- We operate no user database — there is no account of yours for us to lose
- Character set downloads are served over HTTPS
6. Deleting Your Data
Because everything is stored locally, you are always in control:
- Uninstalling the app permanently deletes all study data, cached character sets, and settings
- On Android you can also clear the app's storage from Settings → Apps → Kanji Widget → Storage
- There is no server-side account to delete, and no request you need to send us
7. Children's Privacy
Kanji Widget is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has shared personal data through our app, please contact us so we can remove it.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
